<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">HOW TO WORSHIP A GODDESS is a great read that I enjoyed very
much. I love the premise of this series; Goddesses from an old Parthenon who have
lost most of their powers, how they're able to adapt without the majority of
their powers in this modern world and how they're able to find love. The
characters are interesting and the plot, just when I think it's going to be
predictable it always takes a slight turn that I didn't expect. If I have one
complaint about this series and HOW TO WORSHIP A GODDESS specifically (though I
had the same problem with the first book in the series as well) is that there
is too much sex in it. That sounds like I'm such a hypocrite doesn't it?
Especially given that I love steamy romance and erotica is one of my favorite
genres. However, it didn't always fit in for me here. It was sort of like
reading an inspirational and all of a sudden the heroine stands up and says F
You. LOL. The majority of the sex scenes didn't flow right and slowed down the
pacing of HOW TO WORSHIP A GODDESS. I’m not saying that it was with every
encounter but a good deal of them. And yes the encounters were hot. I don't
often say this, but the sex actually pulled me out of the story several times.
It felt as if it were tacked on as if they author felt she HAD to amp up the
sexual chemistry.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It seems silly to say that the only thing that didn't work
for me in the book was the that the sex seemed out of place, but that's how I
felt when I read HOW TO WORSHIP A GODDESS, but other than that it was a stellar
read.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I wanted to read HOT ZONE because I was intrigued by the
book's description. It had everything going for it and as a former Army vet,
I'm a sucker for military set romantic suspense stories. Amelia and Hugh were
intriguing with an unique and interesting layered background. Amelia's father
had been a pedophile who prayed on her brother's girlfriend, which led Amelia
to become a lawyer; Hugh's wife and child died in a plane crash, which pushed
him into a career where he rescues people giving little regard for his life or
his safety. This is not a spoiler as these facts are mentioned in the first or
second chapter, by the way. Anyhoo, despite these interesting back-stories I
had a hard time buying into their instant romance given the situation they were
in.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Amelia has travelled to the Bahama's to assist her brother and his wife with the adoption of their new son. While there a major
earthquake strikes and Amelia is trapped inside the debris with her nephew. Hugh
comes in to save her and gets trapped as well. While they are trapped they talk
to each other and a bond is formed between them. I didn't understand the sexual
attraction/awareness that flared up between them. I mean, her nephew is trapped with
them, his condition unknown, Amelia is hurt as well, yet they are thinking
about sex and how they are attracted to the other person. The way it was
written didn't ring true for me. I would've bought the attraction more if the
author would've held back until they were rescued and they saw each other again. As it was written pulled me out of the story.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I loved the idea of Hugh's job and the men on his team. I
felt their sense of camaraderie; however, I wish their stories were integrated
more into the main plot. There was a significant side plot with Hugh's boss
that in my honest opinion did not add to what should have been the focus on
Hugh and Amelia. Of course, I am well known for my annoyance for major side
plots that don't add to the hero and heroine's story (cough cough, J.R. Ward).
I wish more of HOT ZONE focused on Hugh and Amelia fighting through their
situations instead of the other characters (Hugh's boss who's name I can't
remember at the moment and Amelia's brother and his wife). While cute, didn't
add to the main story, IMHO.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I'm debating if I'm going to read this author again. I loved
the military aspect and the unique roll the unit plays in the story. However, I was
underwhelmed by romance. The hero and heroine's instant attraction and the completely predictable suspense
plot. Though my love for the military plot will probably make me pick up this
author again, it will because of how well she writes that world and the disaster situations and not for how she writes romance or suspense.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I debated about posting this review, but in the end I did even though I did not finish this book. And I'm not sure if I can explain why in a coherent and reasonable manner. I'm sorry. I think that people
are going to stop giving me books for review because I so rarely gush about
books and frankly I just don't have the patience to keep reading a book that doesn't capture me even if I feel obligated to do so. I am such a crappy reviewer/blogger. I really want to gush about books, really I do, but a book has to keep
me interested, it has to make me forget that I have two children running around
like crazy in my house. ALWAYS A TEMPTRESS just didn't do that to me, I was too
caught up in the Are You Kidding Me moments. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I think since I've become a Stay-At-Home Mom my tolerance
level for any melodramatic drama that doesn't revolve around my children has gone in
the toilet. That's because I just don't have a lot of leisure time to read. Ironic really when you think that I've had less time to read now that I'm at home than I did when I was working. Anyhoo, ALWAYS A TEMPTRESS had too much drama that could have been averted. I could tell from the first couple pages that all was not what it seemed. I also had issues with the hero from the moment he appeared on the page. He spent so much time assuming what the heroine was about that he
never TALKED to her. Maybe my feelings would've been different if I read the other books in the series first (this is the 3rd, I think). Maybe if I'd seen the hero in another environment first I would have understood more of where he was coming from. However, since I didn't I hated, hated, hated the hero.
All I could think of while reading ALWAYS A TEMPTRESS was I was just not in the
mood for another story where the hero is treating the heroine for crap that
wasn't her fault, things that he would have known wasn't her fault if he
would've just shut the f up and spend two minutes talking to her to hash out their
past.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The writing inside of ALWAYS A TEMPTRESS was very well done, and the heroine actually appeared interesting, I would have liked to have known more about her background, it was obvious she had been abused and I wanted to know her history. However, I just
couldn't get over the thin premise for the plot and the hero's actions. Basically a villain dies in the beginning and he says that the heroine has what he's looking for. So everyone believes a known villain who it appears did some awful crap in the previous books. So now that gives the hero who now believes the heroine is a spy justification to be a prick to her and get payback for doing him wrong when they were kids. Of course she didn't do him wrong, it's painfully obvious and I would have bought his I HATE HER, I HATE HER moments more if they weren't he said/she said type stuff and he actually tried to talk to her to resolve their past, but he didn't. It also didn't help that I so figured out what the heroine supposedly has because it was very obvious where their 'secrets' where hiding from a scene in a prologue. I could be wrong and I often am, but with me figuring this out, not connecting with the hero and the weak conflict that could've been resolved with a conversation caused me to lose interest.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This week I had conferences at Queen's school and I've been
thinking a lot about my childhood. I went to elementary school back in the
'80's in an inner city school that reeked of a cheesy movie of the week. My
principal was a black man with a vision who ignored the superintendents and ran
his school the way he saw fit. My music teacher was a white guy who played
Earth, Wind, and Fire and James Ingram during music class, and was the first
person we saw who had one of the original Apple computers that he brought to class
and made us buttons on it. I think my button said, I love Michael Jackson. LOL.
I'm not on Facebook, but I've learned that both of these
teachers are. I learned this fact, because one of my cousins thought it would
be funny to send me a god awful picture he snagged from our old principals
Facebook page. My old principal was always taking pictures of all us and has
literally a million pictures of his days as a principal at my elementary school.
Unfortunately. Seriously this picture my awful cousin sent me, has me in a
Jheri Curl (God, those should've been outlawed, and why did my mother allow her
eight year old child to get a Jheri Curl?), ugly welfare octagon glasses, and
this awful sweater that was leather and sweat material. I hate him (my cousin)
on principal for sending me that picture and to torture me he said it is now
the screen saver on his computer. He also sent me a picture of that. As you can
see, the snark comes naturally in my family.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Anyhoo, during my 1st – 8th grade
years, the children were segregated (no, I'm not talking about race, my school
was actually integrated). We were segregated by intelligence. We had four
classes for each grade: the honors class, the smart class, the not so smart
class, and the delinquents. Of course all the students knew this. One of the
most traumatic experiences in my elementary school days was when I was in
second grade. I hated my second grade teacher and she hated me. As a result, in
the third grade I went from the honors class to the smart class. Of course in
fourth grade I went right back to the honors class, but still, I remember it to
this day and get pissed at my second grade teacher all over again. Why yes, I
hold grudges. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I'm telling you this, because maybe it would help you
understand how I was formed and why I'm so blunt. Because as a child, I always
knew where I stood. I knew what I was good at and I knew what I sucked in. I
was surprised that when Queen started to school they didn't separate the kids
the way I was separated. In Queen's school they mix all the kids together and
then in classes where kids need extra help, the kids switch up like it's high
school and go to their math and reading classes by level. Really? And when I
went to Queen's conferences, I'm hearing all sunshine and daises, and talk like
this is the beginning of the school year and it's okay if she's not at this
level yet, yada, yada, yada. Seriously? I was trying to prod Queen's teacher to
tell me what she sucked in and what she excelled in so that I could help her at
home, and was not getting straight answers. Yes, she gave me ideas on how I
could help Queen with reading and math, but nothing concrete. I'm sorry, I
wanted to know more, where she stood academically compared to the other kids in
the class, was she on target, behind, ahead, etc., etc., etc. I was so annoyed.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I think people are so afraid of hurting your feelings nowadays
that they are afraid to tell you the freaking truth. I want the freaking truth.
Don't be afraid of hurting my feelings. I'm a big girl I can take it. I'm not
going to run of and shoot myself or get a whip and force my child to do
schoolwork 24/7, as if she'd stand for it. I don't call her Queen for nothing.
Anyhoo, tell me where my child sucks donkey doo. It's my child, I live with
her, I know she's not perfect, damnit. She just looks like she is.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This sugarcoating the truth thing is not just with Queen's
school. It's everywhere. As you know I am an aspiring writer. I've sent a few
things out and gotten rejected by my target publishers. Since those are the
publishers I want to publish with I've held back sending more stuff out because
I'm trying to figure out what is it about my work that sucks donkey doo doo. I want
to work to improve on it, but the feedback I've been given isn't what I would
like. It's non-existent. I know that editors do reports before the reject someone stating what
about the book they hated and why they wouldn't buy the book. I would love to
have that information. Why don't they tell you what about your book sucks? Is
it my grammar/craft (most likely, as you haven't noticed by now, my grammar
sucks, I'm trying to work on it), characters, plot, etc? Yes, I know that
opinions are subjective and what works for one person might not necessarily
work for another, but damn it, I'm asking for your opinion that's why I sent my
stuff to you. You aren't going to hurt my feelings by giving it to me straight.
I'm not going to ever stop writing, because you said that my novel was the
worst thing you read all year. I'm not going to send off an angry e-mail over
the web stating what an awful person you are for stating your honest opinion.
What I am going to do is look at your opinion and either work to improve what
you said bothered you or ignore it totally and move on. Because, that's how I
roll.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">That brings me to reviews and my reviewing style. It drives
me crazy when reading a review for a book (even by my on-line buddies) where
the reviews are all sunshine and daisy and then at the end the reviewer gives
the book four stars, or three stars. Really? If it was so great why did you
give it four stars why not five? What was it about the book that made you not
give it a five. That's the kinda crap I want to know. As a reviewer are you too busy trying to make friends with authors that you aren't going to give your primary audience, the readers, the truth? Why? Despite what authors think, reviews are for readers not authors. Knowing your truthful opinion about a book would not
make me decide to not buy the book. Heck, I've gotten books with one star
reviews and loved it, I've gotten books with five star reviews and wondered
what crack the person who gave the book a five star was taking when they wrote
the review on this book. But, I knew that was their opinion and respected that (even if it was crazy
for cocoa puffs – LOL).<o:p></o:p></span></div>

the Jane Austen Fan Fiction Nazis on Amazon for giving one of their buddies
books a one star (I actually found that amusing). I've had authors block me

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It
took me forever to read DARK PREDATOR, mainly because I had read another
bloggers review of this book and she trashed it. She trashed it in such a way
that it made me think that I was going to have serious issues with this book.
However, I eventually read DARK PREDATOR because while I love how thought out
this blogger reviews books, I rarely agree with her. If she's egging me on to
read a book saying she loved it, I read it and it's a DNF for me. If she hates
a book, I don't mind it. But because of the way she reviews, I still like to
read her reviews.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Still
after finishing DARK PREDATOR, I am having a hard time putting my feelings down
to words. Christine Feehan was one of the first paranormal romances that I read
way back in the day before Twilight/Harry Potter, etc. when not a lot of people
were reading paranormal romance. I've pretty much given up on the rest of the
series she has written (I still plan to finish the Drake Sisters and that spin
off of them, but just haven't gotten around to it, yet), but for some reason I
still keep reading her Carpathian series.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The
heroes of her books range from Alpha to Alpha-hole and the heroines from weak
twits to kick-ass woman. Of course, I prefer books with the Alpha and the kick
ass woman. DARK PREDATOR was not that book. DARK PREDATOR's hero is an
Alpha-hole and while the heroine is not a twit, she fell a little short for me,
in ways that it's hard for me to describe. SORRY, I SO NO THIS IS NOT HELPFUL.
I'm trying to sort out my feelings here, people!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I
think my problem is that I'm so over the mind rape premise of this series,
especially when the hero is an Alpha hole. To be specific, when a Carpathian
finds his mate, they are able to communicate telepathically, and the man can
often bend the female to his will. That was done in this book. The hero totally
mind rapes the heroine and that annoyed me, especially as he did it after she
saved his life. The heroine believes that she deserved this mind rape because
she didn't listen to his demands that she let him die. While mind rape has been
done throughout the series, I think this time, I just got annoyed and was so
over it. I'm like it's time to move on with this premise. Please.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This
scene was in the first couple chapters of the book (I think Chapter 3) and
after that, the story picks up and becomes a little more interesting but I
think it's because of how the author switched up the whole life-mate premise
that was interesting to me. However, because of the character traits of both
the hero and heroine (him being an Alpha-hole and her being Ms. Susie Sunshine)
I had a hard time connecting with them or caring about their happily ever
after.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I
found myself skimming the endless narrative in DARK PREDATOR, mainly because I
didn't care, and mainly because I was looking for more interaction between the
hero and the heroine and not the emo narrative that was given. I felt that I
had been given what DARK PREDATOR presented countless times, the vampire chase,
the society hoopla, yada, yada, yada.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">While
closing DARK PREDATOR, I realized that the book was very well crafted, but I
had an epiphany. DARK PREDATOR was not a romance novel, because choice and free
will were taken away from Susie Sunshine. I wanted to see more on why they were
destined for each other than Alpha-Hole's constant Alpha-holeness towards Susie
Sunshine.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Will
I still read these books. Probably. I think because there was nothing in here
that made me scream with rage to make me stop reading the series like I have
from her other series (the Game one) or the Stephanie Plum series by Janet
Evanovitch. Both are long standing series that I followed for years and just
stopped for various reasons.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

(Lynette again. I am so honored to have Ms. Jenkins this week. I rarely gush over authors but Ms. Jenkins has been my idol since I walked in a bookstore way back in the day and saw one of her historical romances on the shelves. She is an amazing writer who writes with great historical detail. She is also the reason I took so many African American History courses when I was in college. Anyhoo. Sorry for the major gush fest here, back to the point . . . . Ms. Jenkins will be offering a copy of her latest release Night Hawk to a commentor to my blog. You have until Sunday, November 20th Midnight EST to enter. And you should, because seriously, Ms. Jenkins is just freaking amazing.)<br />

Happy Friday!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Today I have a special treat for you. <a href="http://mamakittyreviews.com/">Mama Kitty</a> from Mama Kitty Reviews is doing a guest post today. Recently I helped to escalate Ms. Kitty's love of all things Pride and Prejudice by constantly harping about Mr. Darcy to her and giving her some of my favorite Pride and Prejudce fan fiction/adaptations to read and since that's all we've been talking about lately, we decided it would be fun to do a guest post at each other's blog's today. Take a look at Mama Kitty's awesome post and then go to her blog to take a look at mine. Have an awesome weekend.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
So,
I’ve been in a major funk lately, which means I’ve been on a <i>serious</i> Pride & Prejudice kick
lately. I mean <i>really serious</i>. I’ve
watched the 2005 version with Keira Knightley (that I mostly just watch for
Matthew MacFadyen – what? He’s <i>hot</i>) more
times than I can count in the past few weeks. And when <a href="http://www.twitter.com/mslizalou">@mslizalou</a> found out that I’d never
seen the 1995 mini-series with Colin Firth, she marched herself to the post
office and mailed me her copy to <s>drool over</s> watch. I mean honestly, have
you seen Colin Firth looking so delicious? Perhaps it’s him in the role as the
delectable Mr. Darcy that makes me want to crawl all over him so much...<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But I digress. This is supposed to be a post about why I
love Mr. Darcy so much and all I’ve managed to do thusfar is... well, squee
about him like Lydia Bennet (who I want to punch in the face).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Let’s examine Mr. Darcy ‘s qualities, shall we? At first
glance, he comes across as arrogant, snobbish, and rude. In fact, he says that
Lizzy is not “handsome enough to tempt [him]”. It’s a wonder she gave him the
time of day at all with a comment like that! Not to mention the litany of other
(perceived) offenses against him:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
-<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';">

</span>Darcy’s arrogance amongst the neighbors in
Hertfordshire<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
-<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';">

<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
-<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';">
</span>That horrid proposal he tried to give Lizzy<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjekxT52CdXKlQQSdq-4nOwHfyEPMYbjhNf-fZ2jZgpx1kpUTar4wp52ZyEkvnPwMRqPcKUHbQuadkN02iRb0JHCBtO75ZrrPmbW3zNDhPxr7N3znvtF2XdY3gOsm-rTwQ1derC3WQ42G8/s1600/mmpp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjekxT52CdXKlQQSdq-4nOwHfyEPMYbjhNf-fZ2jZgpx1kpUTar4wp52ZyEkvnPwMRqPcKUHbQuadkN02iRb0JHCBtO75ZrrPmbW3zNDhPxr7N3znvtF2XdY3gOsm-rTwQ1derC3WQ42G8/s1600/mmpp.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
And
yet with all these things, we still love him. Why? Because underneath all these
things, we see the real Darcy. We see the man beneath the layers of Pride and
Prejudice (see what I did there?). When he speaks of and to his sister, you can
see how much he loves her and how well he takes care of her. When Lizzy and her
aunt & uncle are visiting Pemberley, you can hear how much he is respected
by his staff when they are talking to Mrs. Reynolds. You <i>know </i>that he is a kind master and a good man. And even when he runs off after Lizzy tells
him that Lydia (the moron) has run off with Wickham, you suspect that it isn’t
because he’s embarrassed to be with her or because he wants nothing to do with
her, but because he’s going to do something about it because he still loves
her. Because you know he’s that good of a man. Maybe it’s just my foolish,
romantic heart that expects it as I read the book, but when I read the words
the first time I thought to myself “He’s going to take care of it!”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Jane Austen did a fantastic job of writing a subtly sexy man
without actually writing anything <i>sexy</i>
about him. She did write a dominant man, because in those days men were very
domineering. Ok, let’s face it – they’re domineering today as well, but it
was... more expected back then. Anyway. He was quietly dominant, which is
pretty damned sexy, if I do say so myself. He was confident, which is also sexy
as hell. And yes, he was prideful, which isn’t all that sexy, even if his
arrogance could sometimes be considered a somewhat sexy trait.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6yqNL4EqByvMNNQKWWLx9izv5JJHqpJKPV_t26QQBHF2x9F5Tl45EYmqoOKwhH2xCgmmSPyCu_lOwBh2IMmLS2VBM_umIzJ2KZGZx8JLtic8mTUfmZgreqnhLKgE6RLsXR361AzwK9A/s1600/Pride_and_Prejudice_Colin_Firth_Wet_Shirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6yqNL4EqByvMNNQKWWLx9izv5JJHqpJKPV_t26QQBHF2x9F5Tl45EYmqoOKwhH2xCgmmSPyCu_lOwBh2IMmLS2VBM_umIzJ2KZGZx8JLtic8mTUfmZgreqnhLKgE6RLsXR361AzwK9A/s1600/Pride_and_Prejudice_Colin_Firth_Wet_Shirt.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When Mr. Darcy fell in love, after he sorted out his
feelings and got over his feelings for Lizzy’s less than fortunate
circumstances of birth, he was certainly a sight to be seen. I don’t know if
it’s necessarily a manly thing to say he “glowed” but whatever the guy term for
it is, that’s what he did. When she was around, there was a brightness to him
that made it seem like all the world’s troubles had gone away – and when you
add that look to the rest of the overall SEXY that is Mr. Darcy, you get a big
*swoon* from me.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So, why do I love Mr. Darcy? Well, he’s intelligent, funny
(when he’s around his family and very close friends), he’s got a bit... ok, a
lot of Alpha in him, and yes, he’s arrogant. What? I like ‘em a bit on the
arrogant side. And even though I fought it for ages, I really like HR, and what
else is Mr. Darcy but the epitome of HR?<o:p></o:p><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">HANDY MEN is an Ellora's Cave Quickie release and it is set apart from other Ellora's Cave Quickies, heck even non Quickies with the depth of character and plot that I do not normally see with this publisher. Of course, this is to the credit of Ms. Delvin who has a very well established writing career. It frankly shows.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">HANDY MEN packs a lot of punch with very few pages. The characters are three dimensional, well developed and their sexual encounters are off the charts. I was a little concerned with how quick the men decided that she was 'the one' but given the short amount of space I was able to let that go. I don't think I would've been able to do that if the writing and the characters weren't so terrific.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">When Shari discovers that her fiancé has been cheating on her, she lets the wedding go on according to plan. Except while everyone else is at the church, Shari is heading to the airport to fly off on her honeymoon with her best friend, Jon.<br />
Jon is only too happy to help Shari escape what he knew would have been an awful marriage. Plus he’s thrilled by the prospect of time alone with her in a tropical paradise. He’s always loved her, and desired her as a lot more than a friend.</span><br />

A steamy, romantic night on the beach turns into a whirlwind of desire as they take their friendship to multiple new levels of passion. Whenever I get that need, I turn to a book from Ellora's Cave. I don't generally categorize a publisher, but there is something about Ellora's Cave books. They're not always deep, but whenever I'm in the mood for some light, fluffy quick erotica, I turn to Ellora's Cave.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">ALWAYS YOU was one of those books you read for a quick pick me up. ALWAYS YOU is a novella that I breezed through. Even though the heroine Shari was somewhat oblivious for my tastes, I liked her. I think that was because I was so that girl back in the day. I seriously had no clue that guys were into me and thought we were just friends. Now that I'm older, it's embarrassing for me to realize how many opportunities I passed up because I was such a dingbat.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The relationship between Shari and Jon was straightforward and pretty close to what was describe on the back cover blurb with some great steamy encounters that were not just about being erotic but showed the characters personality as well as having quite a bit of emotion in them as well. This is something I don't always find when reading Ellora's Cave's novels. I appreciated that very much. Despite the shot length and ALWAYS YOU being an erotic romance, I totally bought into their happily ever after.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I did have a couple issues that pulled me out of the story, but they were minor but you know me, I'm mentioning them anyway. ALWAYS YOU opens with Shari and Jon arriving to their hotel room drunk and falling asleep in separate beds. What seems like seconds later a drunk Shari is pleasuring herself with Jon hearing her in the next bed. This did not seem plausible. I went back and re-read to see if it was clear that some time had passed before Shari starting umm . . . enjoying herself and it wasn't clearly stated. The same thought occurred to me when Shari and Jon have an encounter on the beach because only moments before they were at a beachfront restaurant. Although they had walked awhile, the prose wasn't clear to me that they were alone enough to have such a encounter. It was little details like that which pulled me out of the story and had me focusing if they were really alone or if this was plausible instead of focusing on the hero and heroine.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Other than that, I enjoyed ALWAYS YOU very much.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">I
really, really, really wanted to read LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR. I wanted to
read this book from the moment I closed her debut <b><i>Anna and the French Kiss</i></b>.
I must say that I'm glad that I waited until my library ordered a copy of LOLA
AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR because if I had actually paid money for this book, I
would've been very angry. It wasn't the writing, which was great. It was the plot and the characters that drove me crazy.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Maybe
I expected too much? I'm going to try to articulate why LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT
DOOR was a letdown for me. The main reason was that Lola didn't connect with me
as a character. Probably because she spent the whole book lying to everyone
around her and deception/lying is one of my biggest romance pet peeves. I know
that as a teenager that your emotions are haywire and you often lie to yourself
and others without meaning to, but that still doesn't make you the best possible
choice for the heroine in a romance novel. I needed deeper motivation to
justify why Lola spent so much time lying to everyone.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">It
wasn't only Lola that I had trouble with but I had trouble with the majority of
the main characters. The book seemed forced, as if she was trying to live up to
the success of Anna and having trouble doing so.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">I
mean really, what was wrong with Max. He started out like this great character.
The only issue that seemed wrong with him was his age (he's 22, she's 17).
While that is something to raise an eyebrow about, in the beginning (before the
novel went down into lala land for the sake of trying to get Lola and Cricket
together) I didn't get why everyone around her freaked so much about it, even
she and him. Granted, I might have felt this way because when I was 16/17 I
dated a guy while not 22, was 19/20 and out of school. I was annoyed that Max suddenly morphed
into this bad guy. I mean really why wouldn't he, Lola had been lying to him
forever. When she finally went and broke up with her and he got nasty with her,
I was actually cheering for him and he was supposed to be the 'villain' in all
this. LOL.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">This
love triangle Lola/Max/Cricket bothered the heck out of me. It was not well
executed like the triangle in Anna. I think because she was working too hard to
make Max appear to be a bad guy and Lola spent so much time playing games that
I lost a lot of respect for her. While I see how Lola and Cricket were actually
good for each other, I thought Max if she hadn't went down the very obvious are
you kidding me trying to obviously make him the villain road, would have worked
just as well. In the end, I agreed with Max's parting shout about Lola. In the
end, with all the costumes, Lola was just a little girl with a lot of issues.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I
loved this book. Despite having lost his memory, Percy was his usual sarcastic

the pacing (differing points of view from all three protagonists) were
interesting and didn't slow down the pace of the story.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">While
I really enjoyed The Lost Hero, THE SON OF NEPTUNE was better. I think it's
better because with The Lost Hero we were introduced to three new charecters
who we were supposed to identify with, characters who while interesting didn't
hold a candle to Percy. Can anyone? With THE SON OF NEPTUNE we not only have
the awesome Percy Jackson but his new cohorts Frank and Hazel have ties to some
familiar characters in the previous Percy Jackson series in some unique and
exciting ways. Frank and Hazel's backstory's were just as intriguing as Percy's
and you were rooting for them from the beginning. THE SON OF NEPTUNE is a
excellent filler story as we build up to the seven getting together to fulfill
the prophecy. Since the next book is called The Mark of Athena, I'm assuming
it's going to focused on Annabeth? I can't wait. It sucks that these books come
out one a year.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There
is something wrong with me. Shiloh Walker has a massive backlist and I don't

I read, I've loved. Seriously. If I loved every book of hers that I read, why
haven't I bought more of them? That is like a burning question that I have to
send out to the cosmo's and get an answer back. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, PEOPLE!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I
love Ms. Walker's writing style and I think it's suited to romantic suspense.
IF YOU HEAR ME, captured me from the first page and I kept reading until the
last. As I read IF YOU HEAR ME, it took every molecule in my body not to turn
to the last page and figure out who dun it. And when the killer's identity was
not revealed at the end of IF YOU HEAR HER (this is the first in a trilogy) I
went back through the book with a fine tooth comb trying to figure out who the
killer was with the little clues that were dropped throughout the book. I think
I figured it out.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lena
was an awesome heroine. Although I am not blind, nor do I know anyone who is
blind, I loved the way Ms. Walker didn't make Lena a representation of what our preconceptions of
what a blind person is like. Lena was very three-dimensional, kick-butt and
take names type of a woman who does not suffer fools nor allow anyone to treat
her like a fool because of disability. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If I have to cite an issue with IF YOU HEAR
HER, my minor issue had nothing to do with the characters, or writing, but
something along the lines with my personal reading tastes. I wish that there were
a little more page time for Lena and Ezra as couple. Fans of Ms. Walkers
Rafferty Brothers series (her previous Romantic Suspense series), should note that the focus in this series is more on the plot than on the characters
happily ever after (I felt that her previous romantic suspense series focused
more on the relationship). Because of that, the pacing was a little wonky for
me at times because I wanted more Lena and Ezra working through their
relationship instead of the suspense bit. However, even saying that Lena
(especially) and Ezra were such awesome characters that these thoughts didn't
deflect my supreme enjoyment of this novel.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
