REVIEW AND CONTEST: NEVER TOO MUCH

Back Cover Blurb:

A confirmed bachelor, Ben Baldwin has had his fair share of woman, and he likes them sexy, wild, and uninhibited as his desires. Nothing at all like the brash, dirt-covered, wholesomely cute woman who just strutted into his diner. But something about Sierra Murhpy's independent attitude makes Ben's fantasies run wild. He'd love to dazzle her with his prized sensual skills . . . to make her want him as badly as he suddenly wants her . . .

Sierra doesn't need a man in her life, not even one as sinfully tempting as Ben. But the more she keeps her distance, the more Bend wants her. And the more Ben wants her, the harder it is for Sierra to steer clear of his teasing touches and enticing eyes. To get him into her bed – and out of her system – Sierra makes him a proposition: she'll sleep with him, but for one night only. Now, it's up to Ben to turn one night of pure ecstasy into a lifetime of passion.

Lynette's Two Cents:

I was looking forward to reading Never Too Much. I ordered it from the library based upon the blurb. I wanted a sexy, fun read. I did not get that and ultimately, did not end up finishing Never Too Much. I stopped at the end of Chapter Four. Never Too Much didn't work for me and these are the reasons why:

Characters:

Ben Baldwin reminded me of a Matthew McConaughey type. Matthew McConaughy annoys the heck out of me every time he appears on the screen. (Okay, I don't know him personally, but I mean the type of roles he plays in movies.) Ben Baldwin is the guy who is sexy and knows it. He believes if he smiles women should bow down and worship him. But Ben is tired of easy and decides to pursue a woman who's more of a challenge. Enter our heroine. Ben decides to stalk, harass her, but because he's the hero of the story and he's cute and charming it okay that he keep pursuing a woman that's not interested in him.

I loved Sierra Murphy in the first chapter. She was strong, independent and tells him straight up that she isn't in the mood for his games. I was like, 'Yes. A strong, woman who can put up with this bull.' I couldn't wait to see the sparks fly between them as she put him in his place. Then I got to Chapter Two. Sierra Murphy turned from a strong, independent woman into an emotional pile of goo. I missed the strong heroine from the first chapter. She doesn't believe in herself, she didn't stand up for herself, and she let Ben control the situation. I felt really let down by the drastic switch in her personality. I mean I honestly. The tone of the first chapter of Never Too Much is totally different from the rest of the novel (at least what I read).

Chemisty:

I felt that Ben and Sierra had no chemistry. It annoyed me how they made assumptions about each other. Those assumptions didn't fit their characters to me. The internal narrative dragged and didn't feel natural. I personally couldn't believe that two strangers would suddenly delve into their deepest darkest secrets within an hour or two of meeting each other. They acted as if they had known each other for months instead of minutes.

I couldn't read anymore. Never Too Much didn't capture my attention enough to make me escape from reality and ignore all the other books I have on my too be read pile. However, I am just one person out of a trillion people in the world and what doesn't work for me, might work for you!

SO

Never Too Much was a Do Not Finish for me. But I'm going to hold a contest. The winner will receive a copy of Never Too Much from me so they can decide for themselves.

You know, Lynnette, I'd like to try this one. Have some Lori Foster books on my shelves but haven't gotten around to reading them.
And from our convos on Twitter and reading some of your reviews I think we look differently at characters and books so I would love to be entered to give this one a try and see if it's a DNF -which would be a first for me because I have never had a DNF since I started reading English Romance- for me too or if I'd like it.

Hugs,
Pearl

Pearl: I didn't finish because the writing wasn't good so their are no worries there. The writing was very well done, just I personally couldn't connect with the charecters. That's why I decided to do this because, I'm often lukewarm on series (take Cat and Bones-LOL) that other people LOVE.

I really REALLY REALLY liked Too Much Temptation and was so looking forward to this book because Ben appears as a secondary character in TMT. But, I was disappointed when I read it, and I think for some of the same reasons as you. I didn't think there was any chemistry between Ben and Sierra. And it seemed like some of the fun or mystery or whatever it was that made Ben interesting as a secondary character was gone when it was time for his book. I was bummed that I didn't like it more.
