 BACK COVER BLURB:

With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is not known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise, and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit – and the twisted motive for the attack.

But her attention is divided. Though she can’t “read” vampires, Sookie knows her lover, Eric Northman, and his “child” Pam well – and she realizes that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot – which is much more complicated than she knows.

Caught up once again in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human – and that there is a new queen on the board . . .

COVER SNARK:
Typical. Boring. I stopped really paying attention. This is a turning point in the series, so they really need to hype it up and change it up a little.

FIRST LINES:

The attic had been kept locked until the day after my grandmother died.

LYNETTE'S TWO CENTS:

Before you ask. I’ve only watched True Blood through the first season. Despite some Hollywood craziness, it was pretty faithful to the plot of the first book. When the second season started there was a little too much WTF that completely deviated from Ms. Harris’s series and I stopped watching. So I have no idea what’s going on in True Blood.

As far of the books, I wasn’t crazy about the series until after the first couple. I think it’s because I always thought Bill was a douche bag. I even had a nickname for him that caught on an on-line book group that I participate in. I was the first who used it so I’m totally taking credit. You must give me credit when you use it! LOL! I called Bill, ‘He Who Must Be Staked.’ The books picked up to me when he was out of the picture and Eric came in. Though, he’s getting iffy to me now as well. I’m also still annoyed that Sookie tossed Qhinn to the curb, she was acting like a big old hypocrite, and that really disgusted me. Yet, I still kept reading.

Eric is getting on my nerves. He is not treating Sookie like a person who he loves and respects. He is just blown away by her golden puta and vice versa. Every time he calls her lover I hear nails scraping across a chalk board. I know it’s supposed to be an endearment, but it rubs me the wrong way. It’s like Sookie is his child instead of his woman. I don’t get an equal fifty-fifty partnership in this relationship and I’m waiting for it to be over. I hope it’s over soon. And, I hope that she doesn’t go back to Bill. I’m with the rest of the humans in the series, I think it’s time for Sookie to stop messing with the dead folks and find a man with a heartbeat.

Now, that I’m done with my rant . . .. I enjoyed DEAD RECKONING. I loved how Sookie finally found her backbone. I think she’s getting to the point where I’m getting, that all these fools who are not putting her interests first, and not caring about her, but using her for various reasons needs to talk to the hand and get out of her life. I read a review where someone was annoyed with the actions that Sookie had taken to get more control of her life, because it put her in danger. To expound would be a spoiler, but I disagreed with that point. I stood up and cheered, because it meant that Sookie was finally going to stop being a doormat and take control of her life. She did it with Eric, with her ex-roommate, her cousin, uncle. She’s taking the baby steps to be in charge and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I thought the pacing was a little off. The first part of the book was really slow, and if I hadn’t been broke and could afford to download another book to my Kindle I would’ve stopped reading. However, after the first I’d say about 100 pages, it really starts to pick up and draw me in. I’ve been so-so about the Sookie series lately, but DEAD RECKONING got me curious again. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I can’t wait for Sookie to gain more control over her life.

BTW. BLOGGER SUCKS. I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS RESPONDING TO COMMENTS. I DEARLY WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU SAY BUT I'M NOT IGNORING YOU IF I DON'T COMMENT BACK.
