INTERVIEW/GIVEAWAY with Thea Harrison

INSIDE THE AUTHOR'S STUDIO
WITH
THEA HARRISON

Thea Harrison is the pen name for author Teddy Harrison. Thea has traveled extensively, having lived in England and explored Europe for several years. Now she resides in northern California. She wrote her first book, a romance, when she was nineteen and had sixteen romances published under the name Amanda Carpenter.
She took a break from writing to collect a couple of graduate degrees and a grown child. She experienced waitressing as a teenager, has worked as an activist for a non-profit consumer rights organization, has been a receptionist, an office manager, a penniless graduate student, a director of development and research, and a single mom. Her graduate degrees are in Philanthropic Studies and Library Information Science, but her first love has always been writing fiction. She's back with her paranormal Elder Races series. The release date for her first paranormal, Dragon Bound, is May 3, 2011.
She adores animals and currently resides with several small pets that have very large personalities.
THEA: Hi Lynette, thanks for having me on your blog today!

LYNETTE: Umm, totally my honor. Let's begin . . .

Describe yourself in one sentence?

I can do that in one word: nerd.

What are the one record, book, and food, you'd take to a desert island?

Argh, this kind of question is always so hard to answer!  This week my answers are:  Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits… one book?  Wail! … smoke is coming out my ears.  Just sayin.  Okay, the book I would take is Patricia McKillip’s Riddlemaster of Hed trilogy.  Yes, I know that’s three books.  But they are put out in one volume now, so that counts, right?

As for the food, it would be chocolate.  That’s the one answer that wouldn’t change.  It would always be chocolate.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An architect.  Or Wonder Woman.

Which book do you wish you'd written?

Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

What makes you happy?

Lots of things make me happy.  A long, leisurely talk with a good friend; a cuddle with my dogs; the surprise of falling in love with a really great book; vacations; chocolate!

What makes you angry?

Injustice, rudeness, bigotry, cruelty.  Child or animal abuse.  Littering.

Name five people how you'd like to invite to a dinner party?

I played this game with my family recently.  I’m going to assume that the people could be dead or alive, or fictional, since this is all make-believe anyway.  I would like to invite Gandalf, since he has such awesome fireworks.  Also the Dalai Lama, Cate Blanchett, George Clooney, and Robin Williams.

What's the scariest thing you've ever done?

The most recent thing that comes to mind is driving hairpin turns on the way to Mendocino in northern California.  I’ve discovered I have quite a problem with that kind of narrow, winding road.  There were times when the road had no shoulder at all—it simply ended in a drop where the outside line was supposed to be.  I had to pull over several times to take a break.

What inspired you to start writing?

When I was a teenager and we went to stay at my aunt and uncle’s house in the country, I would read their books.  They had Zane Grey westerns and Harlequin romances.  Then when I was around sixteen or so I saw an article in People magazine about romance writers.  I was convinced I could do it too, so I wrote my first romance when I was nineteen.

Where would you most like to live?

I’m not sure, but I do know that water would be involved.  Lots of it.  Maybe a house on a large lake or by the ocean.

What is your favorite curse word?

Boogers.  Okay, anybody who reads my stories knows I get much saltier than that.  But boogers is still fun to say.

Who is your favorite man candy?

There’s so much good man candy out these days!  No doubt you’ll be relieved that I kept it down to one guy, two photos.  Today I’m picking Joe Manganiello, who looks good with or without clothes.

Sum up your latest release in no more than twelve words!
A very old boy falls for a very old girl.  They’re surprised.

Thanks again for having me, Lynette!  I had great fun answering your questions!

For the readers, who is your favorite man candy?

Thea, I'm a huge fan and and I'm thrilled to see so many readers talking about your Elder Races series! My favorite man candy has to be Jason Momoa, especially as Kahl Drogo from Game of Thrones. I have weakness for alpha males.

Fun interview. I agree, driving those narrow roads with hairpin curves is always scary for me.

As for man candy, I've got a serious crush on Alex O'Loughlin from Moonlight and Hawaii Five-O. He is just so yummy.
